Student's Review
Successful Teaching Experience
Sergy Kagolovsky Canada 🍁
I have been learning Tabla remotely with my Aroop for 2 years, and the experience has been exceptional. Despite the online format, the lessons are engaging, well-structured, and highly effective. My teacher demonstrates remarkable patience, deep knowledge of Tabla, and a genuine passion for teaching. What I appreciate most is the personalized approach to learning and great communications. Every lesson is tailored to my pace and skill level, with clear explanations and constructive feedback that help me improve steadily. Complex rhythms and techniques are broken down into easy-to-understand steps, making the learning process enjoyable and rewarding. Beyond technical skills, Aroop also shares valuable insights into the rich tradition and artistry of the tabla, which has deepened my appreciation for the instrument. If you're looking for a dedicated, professional, and inspiring Tabla teacher, I highly recommend Aroop. Learning with him has been a wonderful journey, and I look forward to continuing my musical growth under his guidance.

I am learning Tabla online from Dr Aroop Chatterjee, my Guruji, from Canada over the past few months. He brings a rare combination — a seasoned tabla player rooted deeply in the Banaras Gharana lineage, and a patient, disciplined teacher who makes every lesson feel like a joy, even for someone starting this journey in his 40s. Beyond teaching, Guruji’s generosity stands out — he personally helped me select and test the right tabla in India and arranged for it to be sent all the way to Canada. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone, anywhere in the world, seeking a Guru who combines classical mastery with genuine warmth.

Dr. Chatterjee is an exceptional teacher! At 46 years old, I had never touched a tabla in my life and was quite nervous about learning this beautiful instrument online, especially being oceans away from my Guru Ji. However, Dr. Chatterjee motivates me and employs teaching techniques that align with my abilities. He is always smiling, filled with kindness and love. His passion for teaching exemplifies what a teacher should be. I feel blessed and fortunate to have chosen Dr. Chatterjee from among countless other instructors. Thank you, Guru Ji, for your patience and for teaching me.
Kindest regards,

Aroop is an exceptionally kind, loving, and caring teacher, but he is also assertive and straightforward in his approach. I had been searching for a tabla teacher for a long time and had scheduled lessons with several individuals from this site. However, after my first lesson with Aroop, I knew he was the right fit for me. I highly recommend him.

I have taken classes for the past six weeks, and I have found Aroop to be an incredibly patient teacher. He is highly qualified in his field and demonstrates great patience and diligence in teaching someone like me, who is a painfully slow learner. Aroop is also quick to respond to any questions or clarifications I may have between classes, which I find very helpful. I wholeheartedly recommend Aroop to any student, regardless of their skill level, as he will help you improve in the shortest time possible. His pleasant and respectful demeanour further enhances his teaching abilities.

Dr Aroop is an excellent tabla teacher. I have been taking tabla lessons from him online for the past few weeks. Although I am in the United States and he is in Varanasi, he is well-equipped with all the necessary instruments and electronic gadgets (including a camera, microphone, and online streaming accounts) for our sessions. He begins with the basics and adjusts his lessons according to the student's pace. He is very patient and encouraging, and I feel that I am making good progress! His teaching style is effective, and we communicate in both English and Hindi. He is incredibly efficient and responsive, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in learning the tabla.
